Employment outlook for fresh graduates in India is getting better with each passing day. Wipro has increased annual salaries of freshers by Rs 30,000 per month. Now freshers will get Rs 3.5 lakh per annum at Wipro.
This comes close on the heels of a similar announcement by TCS doubling the base salary of freshers. Wipro also plans to introduce a coding test to improve the quality of hires, a strategy quite similar to TCS for recruitment. Wipro will roll out a national talent test to expand its reach and help in the hiring process, in line with what TCS had introduced earlier.
Wipro is now banking upon its national test to hire 28,000 fresh graduates. Wipro’s three-tier campus outreach program is designed to hire the cream of the crop. The tech firm offers average salary of Rs 12 lakh per annum to students from IITs.
The first tier of the recruitment process involves hiring from leading colleges like the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). The turbo program is the second layer, where the company offers Rs 6.5 to 7 lakh per employee and then there are traditional hiring sources. According to Wipro’s Chief HR Officer, Saurabh Govil, the company is working with colleges to train students on specific modules.
Wipro has kept the internal training period to 1 to 2 weeks and wants to increase their outreach in US campuses as well. Wipro is building a mechanism for talent in emerging technologies including AI, analytics, and machine learning (ML). The average salary offered for US campus hires is $65,000.
Wipro is concerned about the rate of attrition among those with under 5 years of experience. The company is trying hard to curb the attrition rate through a combination of factors such as salary improvements, skill allowance, training on new technologies, and exposing the employees to different projects.
