The placement season at the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) in India has started on a positive note. Fresh graduates from the prestigious IITs have received more than Rs 25 lakh per annum in pay packages this year. American tech companies such as Uber and Microsoft have even gone ahead and offered salary packages of 1 crore to some candidates. The placement season at IIT Delhi, IITBombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT (BHU) Varanasi started on December 1, 2018.
IIT Kanpur is also witnessing a significant jump in salary offers this year. Nearly 18 companies are offering annual salary package of Rs 25 lakh to fresh graduates. Within the first one and half days, nearly 310 graduates have received confirmed job offers. Companies including Intel, Microsoft, EXL, General Electric (GE), and Oyo Rooms are actively hiring. In fact, Intel has hired almost 30 candidates from IIT Kanpur.
Day 1 of the placement season at IIT Kharagpur resulted in 400 job offers. More than 362 companies are participating in campus hiring this year and are aiming to find talent for a total of 618 open job positions. The placement season will last till December 20. The institute will see 16 new companies including ARPWood Capital, Blackrock, AB InBev, and Bidgely hiring this year. The campus placement season will also witness participation of 33 leading tech startups, most of which are visiting IITs for the first time. EXL has hired 35 candidates while Intel has made 29 offers, making them the top two recruiters at IIT Kharagpur. Qualcomm and Microsoft have also made high number of offers this year.
IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay
IIT Delhi and Bombay campuses have seen 250 job offers within the first two days of the placement season. This number does not include the Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) that students have bagged before the start of the ongoing campus placement season. IIT Delhi placement cell has confirmed that 350 tech firms will be hiring from the institute this year.
At IIT Bombay, the highest offer from Indian tech firm was Rs 45 lakh per annum. The highest international offer made to IIT Bombay student stands at Rs 1.1 crore on the first day itself. The number of offers with packages of more than Rs 25 lakh per annum is higher than last year.
IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee
IIT Madras and Roorkee have reported 215 job offers each. Microsoft has made 31 job offers including three international postings at IIT Roorkee. The highest domestic salary offered was Rs 47 lakh per annum while the best International package was Rs 1.5 crores per annum. Participating companies at IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee campus hiring included the likes of AppDynamics, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Google, Nutanix Technologies, Tower Research Capital India, and Uber India.
Hiring in emerging technologies
For the first time, tech firms are hiring higher number of fresh IITians for roles in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science. Companies are showing great interest in hiring candidates with these new-age skills.
